On January 3, 1942, the CAP announced it could ferry military aircraft within the United States.

From the Washington Post:

Civilian Pilot Corps May Ferry Army Planes Within U.S.: "The newly organized Civil Air Patrol may provide pilots to ferry military planes to points within the United States, Maj. Gen. John F. Curry, national" commander, said yesterday.
