On this date in 2006, the Civil Air Patrol cut 23 of it paid staff from its national headquarters at Maxwell AFB, Alabama.

An excerpt from the Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser:

The 23 employees worked at the organization's Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base location. The cuts were prompted by budget constraints, said Julie DeBardelaben, a spokeswoman for the organization.  The staff reduction began in mid-March and the positions eliminated were middle management and administrative, DeBardelaben said. The job cuts represent a $1.7 million annual savings for the organization.
