On this date in 2006, the CAP and the United States Coast Guard were searching off of Sitka, Alaska for a missing fishing vessel, the Slayer, and its two person crew.An excerpt from the USCG via the Deadliest Fans:
Since Friday morning the Coast Guard cutter Anacapa, helicopter crews from Sitka and the Civil Air Patrol have been searching the area around Point Gardner. The Good Samaritan vessel Aleutian Dream also aided in the search Friday and recovered a life raft, life ring and empty survival suit about five miles south of Point Gardner.---
