February 13, 1923: Gen. Chuck Yeager, WWII Ace, First to Break Sound Barrier, Born

On this date in 1923, Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager, made famous in the movie The Right Stuff and the first to break the sound barrier, was born in West Virgnia.

The Civil Air Patrol recognizes Gen. Yeager's contribution to flight and his nation with its Yeager Ribbon for those who demonstrate knowledge of aerospace and aviation via the passage of a test.
